The Honourable Siromi Turaga, Acting Attorney-General and Minister for Justice, began the post-WIPO leg of his Singapore programme on 28 August with a series of high-level engagements at the Ministry of Law, Attorney-General’s Chambers, and the Supreme Court of Singapore.
At the Ministry of Law, which shapes Singapore’s legal reforms and oversees intellectual property, insolvency, mediation and access to justice policies, Minister Turaga explored the country’s integrated approach to modernizing legal systems. The exchanges built directly on WIPO discussions on registry services and intellectual property, particularly how digital identity systems like SingPass and MyInfo are linked with court and registry services to improve efficiency and transparency.
At the Supreme Court of Singapore, the delegation observed institutional models for judicial strengthening, case management, and citizen access to justice—valuable insights for Fiji as it advances its own court modernization and digitisation agenda.
Later, during a courtesy call on Singapore’s Minister for Law and Second Minister for Home Affairs, both sides discussed opportunities for bilateral cooperation in areas such as legal aid, dispute resolution, and digital justice reform.
This engagement also built on Fiji’s long-standing participation in the Singapore Cooperation Programme, under which more than 1,500 Fijian officials have benefited from training in governance and digital transformation since the 1990s. The Minister noted that these shared experiences provided a strong foundation for deepening cooperation on legal innovation.
