Ministry of Justice Welcomes Strong Sentences in Lautoka Drug Trafficking Case
August 28, 2025The Fiji delegation, led by the Permanent Secretary for Justice in her capacity as Chair of the Anti-Money Laundering (AML) Council, participated in the Mutual Evaluation Committee (MEC) meetings held from 24–25 August 2025 in Tokyo, Japan.
These important discussions provided Fiji with an opportunity to strengthen regional and international networks, and to better prepare for its upcoming mutual evaluation scheduled for later this year and into 2026.
The MEC meetings also focused on:
🔹 Technical assistance and training programs
🔹 Reviews of recent evaluations of other jurisdictions
🔹 Identifying gaps and areas for improvement across key sectors involved in the fight against money laundering and terrorist financing
By learning from the experiences of others and engaging with international partners, Fiji is committed to continuously improving its AML/CFT (Combating the Financing of Terrorism) framework.
The Annual Plenary Meeting begins today Wednesday, 27 August 2025, where further discussions will shape the region’s collective efforts to combat financial crimes.
