
Ministry of Justice Observes Easter with Message of Unity, Selflessness, and Service. 3.30pm – 4.30pm
April 17, 2025The Ministry of Justice, in solidarity with the Fiji Corrections Services, presented their traditional condolences (i-reguregu) to the vanua of Naitasiri on Tuesday, 22 April 2025, in honour of the late Gone Turaga Bale na Qaranivalu, Ratu Inoke Takiveikata.
The solemn ceremony took place in the chiefly village of Navuso, Naitasiri, where the Ministry’s delegation was led by the Minister for Justice, Hon. Siromi Turaga. He was accompanied by the Assistant Minister for Justice, Hon. Ratu Josaia Niudamu, and the Acting Commissioner of Corrections, Mr. Sevuloni Naucukidi and officers from both the Ministry of Justice and Fiji Corrections Service.
The i-reguregu was presented as a mark of deep respect and in recognition of the late Ratu Inoke Takiveikata’s enduring legacy as a traditional leader and a son of Naitasiri who held immense mana among his people and across the country.
Ratu Inoke Takiveikata’s life was one of service to his vanua, to his people, and to Fiji. Honorable Siromi, speaking in Itaukei stated “edua na siga nikua da mai vakarokoroko ka vakananuma nodra bula na Turaga Bale, na nodra veiliutaki mana ena lotu, vanua kei na matanitu,” (Today, we honour his memory, his leadership, and the traditional wisdom he embodied).
The Ministry acknowledges the vanua of Naitasiri for graciously receiving the delegation and reaffirms its continued respect and partnership with traditional leadership in advancing justice and unity in Fiji.
The late Turaga Na Qaranivalu will be laid to rest on Saturday.
