November 28, 2025While on his official visit to the Solomon Islands, the Minister for Justice and Acting Attorney General, Hon. Siromi Turaga, and his delegation met with the developers of the Justice Information Management System (JIMS), who provided a detailed presentation on this pioneering system developed in the Solomon Islands.
JIMS is a comprehensive digital platform that links key institutions across the justice chain including the Police, Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions, Legal Aid, Attorney-Generalโs Chambers, Drafting Department, Judiciary, and Corrections Service.
Through the system, authorised users can access real-time information such as:
โข Case numbers and individual criminal records
โข Status of pending cases
โข Release dates of inmates
โข Number of persons on remand
โข Remand facility capacity, including beds available
โข Consistent reference numbers from arrest to imprisonment
โข Electronic filing (e-filing) capabilities
The system provides an end-to-end view of the justice process, ensuring efficiency, coordinated case management, and improved data integrity. It is believed that JIMS may be the only system of its kind currently operating in the Pacific region.
Developers of JIMS have expressed readiness to support Fiji by designing a system compatible with the newly launched Justice Sector Reform Roadmap, creating opportunities for digital transformation aligned with Fijiโs reform agenda.
